Mike, I was trying to give the impression that my friend was a Boston political insider, not one of those California surfer/journalists. They don't take kindly to West Coasters here. That must be surreal standing at a podium with a bunch of microphones, trying to act like you have a shot at the presidency when your only audience is a few campaign staff, passers-by, and a crazy protester lady with a weird sign.

A note from "a friend": We were about spitting distance from him, but that's about all I can remember from the speech. In fact, I think the Boston Globe reporter--who with the photographer made up about 20 percent of the audience--who showed up to ask a few questions was a better public speaker. The good news: Obama didn't choose someone who would add to the 'celebrity' charges (acknowledging that criticizing a politician for being too popular, is like criticizing Phelps for winning too many medals, however sound a campaign tactic it is proving.)
