Jindal was a remarkable embarrassment, even to Dems. Which recalls the tremendously embarrassing delivery Bill Clinton gave in his first convention speech. Never underestimate your opponent, even if smirking does seem in order.

I don't think it's the government's job to take care of everyone. Technically speaking, SCHIP expanded care to more kids, not every kid, or every person. And we are the only developed nation without universal health care, so I don't think making sure everyone is insured is some radical position.

I received a modest scholarship from the Governor of California and besides Harvard I've only gone to public universities, which are usually less expensive than private schools. So, some help, I suppose. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Well, all the money for the states can be spent (and was spent) yesterday. There should be more infrastructure spending, but the public transpo stuff in there is good. There are some unnecessary tax cuts, but I can't say that is a shocker. And they will add and remove a lot once it goes to conference committee.

I would say it's not nearly enough, but there are enough good things that it certainly is better to pass it. We will be back at this, at some point, regardless of whether it passes the senate or not. Summers' guidelines seem fine, but I don't much care for him, and I think Brooks is out to lunch when it comes to economics.

David Brooks says that the House-passed-stimulus fails to meet Larry Summers three guidelines of being timely (almost immediate for all of it); targeted (to low- and middle-income people); and temporary: "Stimulus measures should not raise the deficits 'beyond a short horizon of a year or at most two.'”

This gives me pause that the Republicans may have more solid reasoning behind their whines than I wish they did. FTP's analysis?

Minnesota has a lot of lakes, 10,000 or so acc. to the license plate, so thats a lot of jetsam and other crap floating around and i wd say that's coleman territory, as i read keilor et al.
But many of those lakes must be deep, and represents Franken, Wellstone....as for HH (Hubert), he was a funny guy. I would say he was definitely capable of getting to the bottom, but he spent a lot of time on the surface esp. tow. the end. People need to release their hot air in order to get down.
